No Tax Hike Likely Surplus Seen in City Budget

City Finance Director Calderone told Council a surprising year end surplus of about 88 thousand dollars is likely, with over three mills left unspent. He cites higher public works funding, delinquent tax collections, and stronger real estate tax payments as the main sources. The money will likely yield no tax increase and possibly a small tax cut depending on future council decisions.

14 From Area Dead At Toccoa

A dam breach at Toccoa Falls Bible School in northeast Georgia killed 14 area residents including eight children. Among the dead were families from St. Marys and other towns. survivors from Corry, Pa., faced loss as flood waters swept through the campus, killing or injuring students and residents while faith and community resolve carried the school through the disaster.

Old Enough To Know Better Man Charged With DWI

A 70 year old Cambridge Springs man was jailed on a 1000 bond after a hit and run and driving while intoxicated charge. Louis F Beardsley allegedly caused two minor accidents on West Main Street and at his driveway, leading to multiple counts. Police also reported a separate egging incident at 209 South Center Street with $10 damage.

New Orleans shooting spree ends after IRS auditor wounds ten

Carlos Poree, 35, former IRS auditor, allegedly shot ten people across New Orleans after being fired from his job on December 17. Four victims are critically paralyzed with neck and spinal injuries. two of his early targets were his wife and father-in-law. He faces ten counts of attempted murder, plus charges for resisting arrest and other offenses.

PSP Report Details Two Vehicle Crashes Nearby

State police investigated two crashes near the area with heavy damage and no serious injuries. Thaddeus Czech, 42, of Colum business RD 1, lost control on Route 6, drove off the road, breached a barbed wire fence, and hit a utility pole eight feet high, suffering minor injuries. A three vehicle incident on Route 8 near Titusville involved William Johnson, 39, following Leslie Loomis, 21. Loomis slowed, Johnson hit Loomis from behind, pushing Loomis into a parked General Telephone Co truck. no serious injuries reported.

New Budget Not The Only Council Story

City Council last night discussed an $88,000 projected year end surplus and a no tax increase for next year. The session also approved a GECAC pact covering elderly center operations and maintenance, including utilities paid by GECAC while the city handles major maintenance and snow removal. A North Hills sewers agreement with subdivision owners was endorsed and anticipated to be signed.

Corry District Moves To Draft Three Board Policies

The Corry Area School District will draft three formal policies to guide operations. Board and administration agreed to fund the project with 4 500 dollars. Superintendent Krepps says the policy framework, defined by 1955 NSBA and AASA definitions, will steer district tasks and staff duties.
