Dam Bursts Kill Dozens At Toc ca Falls Bible College

A dam break unleashed a flood that swept through Toc ca Falls Bible College in Georgia, killing at least 37 people, mostly students and faculty, with about 45 injured. Two volunteer firemen died in the effort, and First Lady Rosalynn Carter toured the scene calling it indescribable.

State Police Report Busy Weekend In Area

Corry state police investigated a busy weekend including an accidental shooting, criminal mischief, underage drinking and multiple traffic crashes. A 12 year old boy accidentally shot his right leg while target shooting in Union Township and was treated and released. A 20 year old man received a citation for underage drinking after traffic stop on Smith and Center streets. A vandal broke a $150 window pane at Columbus Ace Hardware west of Corry on Route 6.

Area Hunter Dead After Search

Centerville hunter John Kanyuck, 75, was found dead from a heart attack in Moss Grove area near Hydetown Saturday. Coroner said the death occurred about 4:30 p.m. after a missing-person report by his family. Fire departments and volunteers aided the search. locals provided meals for workers.

Corryites Escape Disaster At Toccoa Falls Bible College

Three Corry students narrowly escaped injury in the flood that devastated the Toccoa Falls Bible College campus early yesterday. Darlene Marsh Darla Hall and James Silvis, all residents of Corry, were among those affected as 37 people died. Classes canceled for a week to aid cleanup. The girls dormitory escaped major damage due to its higher ground while the boys dormitory suffered extensive destruction and loss of life.

Be Careful On Wet Roads Be Careful On Wet Roads

The National Weather Service cautions Pennsylvania drivers about rain and slippery roads through Tuesday night. A weak tropical low offshore will bring moderate to heavy rainfall at times in eastern Pennsylvania, risking localized flooding and poor drainage.
