The Panama Limited, a Winds Central Railroad train, derailed at Centralia Illinois on November 7. Engineer Fred Emshine and Wrenn George Lang, both of Centralia, died. Several others injured include Charles Kusaig of Chicago and Henry Peterson of Kewaner. The engine turned over in the wreck and both men were crushed.
New York November 7 trading surged on the stock exchange and card market as optimism lifted prices again. Stocks rose up to eleven points amid robust bidding, with lenders and dealers noting strong demand and brisk activity across sectors.
Election returns from New York show Franklin D. Roosevelt with a large lead for governor, over Ollinger, as 76 districts remain uncounted. United Press reports Republicans gain four Senate seats as counts continue across wavering races. Gains in the House could reach twenty seats, altering the balance of power. Current Senate tally shows 52 Republicans, 36 Democrats with 5 unknown and 2 vacancies. House stands 236 Republicans, 164 Democrats with 32 doubtful seats.
