Stricken Girl May Not Require Brain Surgery
A severely ill girl may avoid brain surgery as swelling behind her eyes receded after hospital treatment. Dr H Harvey Gass indicated exploratory surgery might have been needed to determine a brain tumor but later said it may not be necessary. The girl was made a ward of the juvenile court after her mother Doris Krumm of Berkley refused consent due to religious beliefs against blood transfusions. The mother is a Jehovah's Witness, objecting only to transfusions rather than surgery itself.
