Local fires and traffic mishaps mar Saturday in Erie
Firefighters fought a car motor fire after antifreeze spilled on a winterized motor outside Root Appliance in front of the Console service station. A truck damaged a parking meter on South Center street, and two autos on Center and Washington Streets were damaged in a collision involving Raymond Tewinkle and George Williams. A separate crash on West Pleasant Street damaged cars owned by Bernice Huntley and another driver. A pair of shoes-like skates was found near Féso Hall service station and may be claimed by the owner. Thirty enlistments were accepted by the U S Air Force and Army at the Erie recruiting office, with a November 90 deadline for volunteer draft physicals. Police recovered a red and white bicycle on West Washington Street. The stock markets observed election closures, while several exchanges remained open. A Florida resident, Mattie Green, was fined for third degree assault in Clymer. Pennsylvania’s public assistance figures show low old age aid uptake compared to national levels. Marriage licenses were filed for Craker and Beckwith, and Baker and Brown. Harriet Myers began duties as City Treasurer Clerk, replacing a resigning employee.
