A rooming house on Eighth Avenues burned in the early hours, killing six men and injuring about a dozen firemen. Fifty two men were inside. forty escaped down ladders or across to nearby roofs. Three victims were found on the fourth floor, two on the third, one near a second floor window, all charred. The blaze reportedly started in a rear third floor room.

Chicken Thieves Frustrated at East End Poultry House
Around eleven o clock an attempted robbery at Herman ute’s poultry establishment in East End city was interrupted when a household member heard movement. The door had locks pried and the thieves fled through a pasture lot, dropping a cap. Police expect to identify those involved.

Important Meeting of the Grange at Corry Grange Hall
Corry Grange will hold a meeting Saturday at Grange Hall in the Johnson building. Two or three new members will be initiated and several membership applications completed. The regular business session starts at 1 30 pm. Final settlement of matters from the recent Grange Fair will be attended to. Afterwards an unusually good program will be given. The organization now has about two hundred members with new names added monthly. Interest is growing rapidly and the grange is in better condition.

Funeral services for A F Weber were held yesterday at St Elizabeth Church, with members of the Eagle, Wike and Stanford Hose Companies in attendance. Remains were escorted to the cemetery by lodge members. a Requiem Mass was sung, and many friends gathered. Chicago dispatch reports no price increase for peck beef despite the Chicago stock yards closing for ten days to combat a cattle disease. Washington reports Turkey assured the Allies will treat American subjects in Constantinople as safe within Turkish territory.
