Democrat William G Sesler captured the largest margin in Evie County in defeating Pred Lamberton for the state senate seat Sesler has held. Lamberton’s campaign emphasized a school bus subsidy bill he would support in Harrisburg. Lamberton drew 1,195 votes in Corry while Sesler carried 1,605. overall Sesler led by a wide, unexpected margin. Lamberton, an Erie County Commissioner for 18 years, offered no comment.

City police report two burglary clues found and turned in at the station yesterday. A Mead avenue woman found a Carnation Milk Co checkbook with the plant imprint on the Pennsylvania Railroad tracks and turned it to police after being asked to do so. Elwood Nelson reported a gray metal box missing from Rogers Structural Steel Co and later found in the rear yard of 388 Delaware street. the box contained about $25. The Rogers theft was the fourth break-in in three weeks in the First avenue to Eagle street area, with Hammond Lumber Co and Carnation plant also struck. the Hammond incident yielded no loot.

CHICAGO AP At least eight people including five children died when a blaze swept the Dorchester Manor Hotel in Hyde Park. Fire officials said inhalation injuries caused most fatalities as about 29 residents were rescued from the four story brick building while twelve others were hospitalized. Fire Commissioner Hubert J. Quinn noted that the cause and exact number of casualties were not yet determined.
