Support for Campbell to curb hockey fights in 1970s action
In our opinion Sack the brawlers Hockey fans players coaches and club owners should support National Hockey League President Clarence Campbell In his efforts to civilize the game by cracking down hard on those who participate in or encourage fist fighting and brawling on the ice. Mr. Campbell has reacted with justifiable anger to the game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Los Angeles Kings at the Spectrum which was marred by 43 penalties and repeated fights. One mass fistfight and wrestling match a disgraceful exhibition delayed the game 21 minutes. Suspensions for one or more games should get results when fines won’t. When players understand that fighting can jeopardize their hockey careers as well as hurt their teams attitudes should change.
