By late reports 457 died in traffic, with 40 boating deaths and 62 drownings. Thomas M Barclay, 25, of Old City, was arrested by Corry State Police after a three-car collision Sunday night in Hydetown. He pled guilty to reckless driving and received a 10 day jail term. four year old Judith Myer suffered minor injuries and another driver, William Merter, later showed internal injuries at Titusville Hospital.

Mervyn Nast a Corry merchant and civic leader died Friday morning at Hamot Hospital Erie at age 62. He had helped build Corry Memorial Hospital as inspector and board member and led Boy Scouts earning the Silver Beaver award in 1954. He served in World War I, led local Jewish charities, and held posts with the Elks and American Legion before retiring from retail in 1950. His body lay in state at Bracken Picderal Home with services in Erie Friday at 10 a.m. Burial in Hope Jewish Cemetery Hornell followed. He married Mary Sullivan in 1932 and had three daughters and a nephew in Cleveland.
A second major blaze in weeks damaged a two story frame building in Pittsburgh Mount Oliver's business district housing a shoe shop and apartment. Five people suffered smoke injuries. Chief John A. Grimint estimated damage at $60,000 and said the fire was caused by an overheated motor in an exhaust can.
