Four year old dies in Hydetown traffic crash during holiday

A Hydetown girl, Judith Myer, four, died after her father's car was rear ended and pushed into a parked car on Route 8 near Hydetown late last night. Holiday Memorial Day traffic toll races toward record

The Associated Press reports that during the Memorial Day weekend, traffic deaths averaged over four per hour by mid weekend. National Safety Council officials warn the toll could exceed the 1957 four day record of 413 if the trend continues through Tuesday. They estimate about 100 deaths on Memorial Day itself and 385 deaths over the entire non holiday period from Friday evening to Tuesday midnight.

Runaway Farm Wagon Death Near Girard

Cranesville area man Joseph S. Menosky, 83, died from head injuries after a tractor hauling two wagons rolled over him on a downgrade five miles south of Girard. Passenger John Kowle, 18, escaped with minor contusions. coroner ruled death accidental. The incident occurred Saturday around 9:30 a.m. at the path to his home en route to feed livestock. The Girard Fire Department ambulance transported him to St. Vincent's Hospital, Erie, where he died on arrival.

Area Camp Owner 43 Dies After Remodeling Job

Charles T. Pettit Sr., 43, owner of a hunting camp near West Spring Creek, died at Corry Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack while working on the camp remodeling project. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Pettit, from Washington, Pa, and four coworkers were remodeling the camp known as Chitivoat when the fatal incident occurred Friday. The Red Man’s 16-year-old son was present on the trip. Bracken, the Erie County deputy coroner, ruled natural causes. Services will be held in Washington.
