Alcoa Announces Temporary Cutbacks Amid Slump
In Pittsburgh AP report Aluminum Company of America plans about 11 percent temporary cutbacks in domestic smelting, affecting roughly 500 workers. Cuts target several plants including Point Comfort Texas Wenatchee Washington Vancouver Washington Badin North Carolina and Warrick Evansville Indiana. Annual production would fall about 180000 tons from 1.58 million capacity with prior cuts bringing utilization to 74 percent.
