Air Armada Prepares Albany Defense After Boston Attack

United Press reports that twenty seven Ninth Observation Group planes landed in Albany at 10 08 a m from New England to defend the state capital against a mythical air attack. Major William Ord Ryan leads the formation with more than 400 planes planned to move on Albany and other New York points from Bowles airport and nearby fields.

Border Patrolmen Cleared in Deaths

Rivier patrolmen were cleared today of all suspicion in the deaths of three Indians during the seizure of a boat load of deer in the Makquelte river. A coroner's verdict found the men were drowned.

Gas station burglary foiled by patrolman arrival

Thieves smashed the rear door glass at Pennzoil Filling Station on West Smith Street just after midnight but fled when Patrolman Flennigan arrived. Wrappers checked. nothing reported missing as intruders were thought to have just entered before the alarm.

Four Erie men linked to arson ring arrest

Four men including a prominent Erie real estate and insurance agent and an insurance adjuster were arrested as part of an alleged arson ring in Crawford and Erie counties. Investigators say the group bought abandoned farms, mortgaged them high, then burned properties to collect insurance. Arrests followed a stakeout after a Summerhill Township fire, with more arrests expected.

Two Racers Die in Indianapolis Track Accident

In Indianapolis Indiana May 26 a practice run at the Speedway killed driver Joe Gaccia of Bryn Mawr and his mechanic. Their Jones Malny Special leaped the southeast turn wall and burst into flames. Graves died minutes after responders reached the wrecked car. The crash marks the 1951 season’s first deadly accident at the brick track.

Mine Disaster Toll May Reach 68 in India Fire

Corry High to Graduate Second Largest Class This Year

Corry High School will graduate seventy five students this year marking the second largest class in history. Commencement exercises are being arranged with the full list of graduates to be announced shortly. The largest class, eighty members, graduated in 1926 with city pastors aiding in the program.

House probes urge removal of state utility commission

Harrisburg May 26 The Pennsylvania general assembly considered the final report of the House utility investigating committee which charged the Public Utility Commission with laxity partiality and unfairness to consumers The report urged removal of commissioners and supported the Howell bill giving the governor power to dismiss members and pause rate increases until the commission approves them The bill now goes to conference with Senate objecting to dismissal power while the House backed it The seven member committee signed the report urging removal of the commission “immediately.”

A Bellanca test flight two miles north of Glen Ellyn ended in a crash that killed four crew members Shirley Short pilot Richard K. Peck co pilot Lewis S. Rice radio operator and Robert W. Gormley mechanic. The Blue Streak ship broke apart in a field and witnesses could not explain the sudden descent.

Surrender to Police After Duel Killing in Brooklyn

Vincent Bridgetts, 29, sought by police for three days, surrendered at a patrol station and admitted fatally shooting Dr. Joseph T. Laughlin, a Brooklyn surgeon, in a pistol duel at Marine Park. He claimed self defense and said he wounded his left arm. police reported evidence of blood on clothing and a .12 caliber pistol. Bridgetts was accompanied by attorney George Leisure and said he would provide more statements later.
