He was a longtime leader in local business and civic affairs, serving as treasurer of Swift Hardware, head of the Western plumbing contracting firm, and president of the Board of Commerce and Industry. He was active in national chamber movements and had been invited to attend the International War Council in Philadelphia. He leaves a large circle of friends and colleagues.
The Red Cross War Fund drive reports a total of 8100 dollars with two days left to reach the 10000 dollar goal. Committal leaders express confidence the drive will meet the target.
The funeral of Mrs. Josephine Bonnell was held in the afternoon at Nome Place Street. Rev. Dr. J. W. Stotley of Christ Episcopal Church conducted the service and a large number attended. Interment followed at Pine Grove Cemetery with bearers listed and many out of town relatives in attendance.
A death notice expresses grief over the passing of Walter Clough. Survived by his widow and siblings Frank and Milo Clough of California, John Clough, and Mrs. L C Ketner of the city. Funeral services Sunday viewing hours from 3 to 6 pm, with service Monday at 3 pm conducted by Rev A te Yau Motor of St Paul Cathedral Brie.
The Eighth Farewell Banquet at the Grandin Hotel honored local men called to service. Notable speakers included Mr Cole, Paymaster Radishes and a meal featuring roast capon and vegetables. The event closed with singing and a prayer, followed by a tribute to deceased attendee Clark M. Box.
The board approved a list of graduates after faculty recommendation and voted on graduation for a class of numerous names including Cliniusia Auer and Karine Anan. A state normal diploma for Meren Murray was recommended after two years of teaching experience.
