Family Endangered as Train Strikes Crossing Near Miontown Pa
Four members of the Bachman family were killed or gravely injured when a Lehigh Valley Railroad passenger train collided with a buggy at a crossing near Miontown. Harvey H. Bachman and two daughters, Katherine among them, were in the vehicle. The Gates tower gate was not lowered due to maintenance. The Pittsburgh flyer then dragged the buggy, causing fatal injuries to the parents and serious wounds to the two girls. Katherine was not expected to survive.

Court Denies Appeal For Freedom In Italian Count Case
Chicago May 22 Federal Judge Carpenter denied the plea of Count Toimes Minato seeking freedom from internment under a presidential warrant. The decision was not read until 41 o clock tomorrow to allow the Count to speak with his wife Countess Ta May Swift Minnotto. Minotto's counsel admitted that the Count’s father Count Demetrius Minotto was born in Vienna not Venice as claimed by the defense while the Minotto family is said to be of Venetian origin. The defense protested lack of symdemt heating while the judge noted the emergency nature of the order and said the President must disclose the facts. If the Count believes misjustice he may appeal to the Italian government. After adjournment Minotto asserted he remains loyal to this country.
