Terrorism Seizures Erupt in Netherlands Before Vote
Two groups of heavily armed South Moluccan extremists seized an elementary school and hijacked a train in the northern Netherlands, holding about 130 children and staff at the school and 100 passengers on the train. The attacks, aimed at pressure for homeland independence from Indonesia, echoed a 1975 double siege with no immediate fatalities. Police surrounded both sites as authorities sought to resolve the hostage crisis.
