Eichmann Seen As All Powerful In War Romania
In court today Adolf Eichmann is described as not supreme authority over Jews in Romania during World War II, yet wielding more power than the puppet Antonescu regime. Documents show Eichmann directed the Jews’ fate largely through direct contact with Bucharest and by delegating to SS Maj. Gustav Richter on the ground. The case details deportations to Auschwitz after a 1942 Berlin order to intensify the pogrom, with thousands killed in Romanian ghettos or by special action squads. An eyewitness widow from Guernowitz testified on mass persecutions that nearly wiped out its 70,000 Jews.
