Senate Races To Override Eisenhower Area Bill Veto

Washington AP reports the Senate plans to vote next week on overriding President Eisenhower’s veto of the 251 million dollar distressed area bill. Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson said the vote will be called Tuesday or the next day. Bills from Scott Van Zandt and Saylor, and from the administration, seek 75 to 80 million in industry loans and public facilities grants, with priority for distressed area projects. Aiming to augment housing agency authorization, the measures would shift funds toward public facilities and technical assistance, while excluding rural low income areas. Export figures compare current quarter totals with 1959 and last year’s final quarter.
