WCTU Attacks Prohibition Tax Claims With Figures
The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union released figures arguing repeal would hurt taxes and business. They cited liquor spending at 2.5 billion dollars since repeal and government taxes at 450 million, while coffee and milk consumption fell in 1984 versus 1933. The presentation claimed U.S. families paid 83.38 dollars per family to support liquor and 14.97 dollars per family in government returns, noting dairy and non alcoholic beverages lose ground to alcohol.
