Seed corn crisis grips Pennsylvania in 1936

State College May 19 Pennsylvania faces a critical seed corn situation for 1936 with seed germs dying despite good looking kernels. J B R Dickey of Penn State urges preliminary germination tests on seed corn from 25 ears, warning that late planted corn in central, western, and northern counties may be hopeless. If tests show poor germination, full ear testing is needed using rag toll or Sand host methods. older dried corn may still be suspect. Continuous testing advised for farmers and youths.
