Corry youth writes on U S Navy life from the Canal Zone
Burkhardt of West Frederick Street, a Corry native aboard the Wright, shares a layman’s overview of naval organization, ship types, and fleet roles. He notes divisions of battleships and cruisers, aircraft carriers Lexington and Saratoga, speeds of destroyers and cruisers, and the Wright as flagship of the airbase force with bases at San Diego North Island Pearl Harbor and Coco Solo. He describes encounters with fellow Corry residents, expects a Cuba-bound voyage soon, and sends greetings to local friends.
