The Corry school board elected teachers for the upcoming school year at a May 2012 meeting. Appointments include J. W. Strong as High School Principal science, Sarah Breene math, May McKinney Latin, Margaret Weat English, Marion Beecher German, Harriet Bircholdt history, Beatrice Smith commercial, Elizabeth Ranney ninth grade, plus special and grade teachers such as Mattie Bonetee drawing Annie Laurie thematic art and science and J B Johnson manual training.
The Pine Grove Cemetery Association held its annual meeting last evening in the manager C. L. Alexander's office. The old board of directors was unanimously reelected and Secretary D. S. Rowe reported favorable receipts and the secretary's report.
Expenditure record for April 1914 notes sale of lots, interments, perpetual care costs, and interest. Items include cure of lot occupancy and related charges, with totals around 281.00 and 1209.55 as principal sums and interest.
Chicago May 14 Driven to hunger pangs William Dat with wife and five children in a basement at 280 East Sixteenth Street says he has already given away one child and now offers two more for sale. Dat, a diamond setter by trade, is an invalid and has not worked for years. He cites lack of work to feed the remaining three children and the ailing wife.
J G Pates a wealthy Chicago physician had his daughter Gladye B Pates arrested on a charge of not paying bills. The incident followed a separation from her mother three weeks earlier. The daughter, employed locally, laments the humiliation of the arrest and confusion over bill payment.
National President John P White presided over the Wilkes-Barre convention of the anthracite miners as dissension loomed. He urged tri district leaders to back the tentative agreement and prepare a report for the convention while avoiding strikes.
Washington May 14 The battleship Michigan leads the fleet in all forms of gun practice this year according to scores from the Navy Department. The Michigan will receive the trophy and hold it for one year as the top ship in the competitions.
