CAPE CANAVERAL Fla AP An Atlas intercontinental missile designed for longer range and heavier payload flew 5000 miles to a target north of Ascension Island. The 30 minute flight met all objectives. A 30 pound data capsule was recovered from the sea. The E model success follows fixes to a hydraulics problem.
Century centennial drive for stock sale mobilizes four chapter teams to canvass four wards. Despite door to door efforts stalling, industrial plank sales progress and volunteers urged to join Mrs Taylor by leaving chapter names at central Kendall letters. The campaign aims to raise income with competitive work across the four city wards.
Civil Defense and Red Cross personnel ended a two day mass care drill at Corry Area High School with 400 registered participants and 100 guests. About 850 ate a beef stew supper last night while 400 slept in the high school halls and dorms. Family and community groups from Meadville to Erie participated and mobile bomb shelters were demonstrated as part of the countywide drill.

Cam bridge Springs resident Looney Seusselter, 2p, was arrested by Corry State Police after a two car crash in Centerville. Kenneth Tracy, 51, of RD 3 Centerville, swung wide to turn right and collided with Looney who was attempting to pass on the right. The damage totaled $600 with no injuries. Looney pled not guilty to arriving while suspended, posted $500 bond, and was sent to Crawford County jail for a May 2 hearing.
A Hollywood fire swept through the Hollywood Hills near Griffith Park, scorching over 1000 acres as 24 homes were destroyed or damaged and dozens were evacuated. Winds to 40 mph fueled the blaze started near Beachwood Canyon at 7 43 pm. a major emergency was declared within 17 minutes. Firefighters moved rapidly while residents and a Girl Scout encampment of 146 girls were sheltered and kept safe.
The Untouchabelles roll out a May 26 hoedown at Moose Lodge East Washington with music by the Travellers. Free admission with a 50 cent per person donation. proceeds go to the Centennial Cancer Crusade. They also challenge the Cantenna Belles to a volleyball game at Cory Area High School.

Swiss mathematician diver Hannes Keller, 26, announced at the U S Navy experimental unit that he descended to 1000 feet using a gas mix instead of air. He says the technique, kept secret from the Navy, could enable 2000 foot dives later and cites risks of bends. Keller, formerly a winterthur instructor, has conducted 48 minute dives and recent 581 foot tests with Navy divers.
