Mass Care Exercise Declared Erie County's Best

Civil Defense and Red Cross personnel ended a two day mass care drill at Corry Area High School with 400 registered participants and 100 guests. About 850 ate a beef stew supper last night while 400 slept in the high school halls and dorms. Family and community groups from Meadville to Erie participated and mobile bomb shelters were demonstrated as part of the countywide drill.

Dozens of Syracuse women reported itching near the face and sudden stocking seams popping yesterday in the downtown area. Several noted small pinholes in nylon hosiery while General Electric chemists linked the issue to atmospheric conditions and air acid.

Area Driver In Crash While Suspended

Cam bridge Springs resident Looney Seusselter, 2p, was arrested by Corry State Police after a two car crash in Centerville. Kenneth Tracy, 51, of RD 3 Centerville, swung wide to turn right and collided with Looney who was attempting to pass on the right. The damage totaled $600 with no injuries. Looney pled not guilty to arriving while suspended, posted $500 bond, and was sent to Crawford County jail for a May 2 hearing.

Fire Rages Through Hollywood Hills Destroying Homes

A Hollywood fire swept through the Hollywood Hills near Griffith Park, scorching over 1000 acres as 24 homes were destroyed or damaged and dozens were evacuated. Winds to 40 mph fueled the blaze started near Beachwood Canyon at 7 43 pm. a major emergency was declared within 17 minutes. Firefighters moved rapidly while residents and a Girl Scout encampment of 146 girls were sheltered and kept safe.
