Distillers in Floor Tax Suit Must Post Bond
Governor Hare asks distillers to post bonds as the state pursues floor tax claims totaling about 18 million dollars. Attorney General Mar Giovotti argues the government can collect only part of the tax if companies’ net worth is less than the claims. The suspension will continue until defaulting distillers post bonds from financially responsible parent firms to ensure immediate collection with interest if the state wins.
