Women Protest Ban On Bingo In Erie

Twenty Erie women from the Mothers Get Acquainted Club challenged Mayor Clairence Pulling’s ban on bingo in a city council meeting. They argued bingo is a game of skill and not worse than bowling or car races, claiming about 500 members back the protest and planning a mass meeting upon the mayor’s return from New York City, with estimates of over 3,000 attendees. The mayor insisted he cannot grant permission or break the law, citing his oath to uphold it, while the protesters pressed for recreation and pointed to other mayors who allowed bingo.
