Forced To Employ 500 Unneeded Workers Labor Harassment, Wage Demands Cause Tribune's End
New York AP report outlines the World Journal Tribune collapse after eight months. Owners cited labor pressure and a 21 percent wage pattern over three years, saying the union strategy and recent disputes forced 2,500 layoffs and made continuation impossible. The merger era paper had faced strikes and talent losses since its Sept publication.
