Fire Sweeps Two Union City Homes and Shop

Thousands watched as Union City firemen fought a 30000 blaze that destroyed a print shop and two adjacent two story homes on Atlantic Street. Corry to Stage Large Civil Defense Exercise Friday

Corryite 84 Dies After Gunshot Wound in Erie

Corry 84 year old man died at Corry Memorial Hospital following a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head during a personal crisis. He had recently undergone eye surgery and was convalescing at a daughter’s home in Erie when he hired a taxi to return to Corry. A neighbor discovered him in a garage and called emergency services. Police are investigating the incident.

Kidnapped Child Found Alive Near Albuquerque

A baby kidnapped Monday in Albuquerque was found abandoned about 20 miles northeast, by a Dallas drug store. The child named Mitchell Johnson, son of Placites Mountains, was located alive. A girl later admitted kidnapping the infant.

Lawrence governor unveils historic $989 million highway plan

Gov Lawrence proposes the most expansive highway program in Commonwealth history with a 1959-61 budget of 989,237,527 including higher gas taxes and vehicle fees to attract federal aid. San Diego couple admit strangling two young sons

Wanda Brogdon and her boyfriend Merriam confessed to killing the two boys, aged 3 and 5, after travelling from Rockford Illinois to California. They said the children were smothered or strangled and left in the Laguna Mountains east of San Diego. The pair, both charged with murder, reportedly served coffee to the children to keep them from leaving before deputies arrived. The victims’ father Virgil Brogdon in Illinois said he had filed for divorce recently.
