The US Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered Dr Sam Sheppard remanded to Ohio Penitentiary to resume the life sentence for the 1954 stabbing death of his wife Marilyn. The court overturned a July 1955 release ruling and said due process concerns did not justify overturning the state court conviction. He had contended a bushy haired stranger committed the murder. He was tried in Cleveland, convicted of second degree murder, and imprisoned for life. He had been released briefly and remarried.
A Boston Superior Court petition seeks an injunction to stop the May 25 heavyweight title bout between Cassius Clay and Sonny Liston. Attorney Garrett Byrne alleges promoter Sam Silverman acts as promoter for a fee of 15 000 dollars plus 5 000 expenses while Intercontinental Promotions of Pennsylvania promotes without a Massachusetts license.
