Council Briefly Sets Paving Plans and Tightens Safety

City council held a 70 minute session approving paving by the State Highway Department this summer along East Columbus avenue from North Center Street to the city line and East Main street to the line plus a stretch on South Center street. The panel refused a bill for a punctured tire blamed on a street sign mishap. A tentative step was taken to barricade a deteriorating shack on West Pleasant Street to prevent children from playing inside and risking harm.

City Council Advances Paving Projects on East Columbus and East Main

The State Highway Department seeks to pave East Columbus avenue from North Center street to the east city line and East Main street from King street to the east city line. A smaller project covers South Center street from the railroad tracks to Pleasant street. Council readings moved quickly with first readings, then final readings on East Main and South Center, and an East Columbus ordinance. Fatal Union City Fire Likely Started in Rear Bedroom

Union City investigators suspect a Saturday blaze began in a second story rear bedroom, killing two teen brothers Richard Dingle, 16, and Norman Dingle, 14. Trooper Russell Anderson pledged to complete the probe while interviewing family members and neighbors. The Dingle parents, burned and shocked, were hospitalized, and Coroner Merle Wood attributed death to suffocation with minor burns on the bodies.

Franklin Area Boy Drowns In Pond On Dad's Land

A 12 year old Franklin area boy flannaville Pennsylvania drowned in 8 to 10 feet of water in a pond on his father's land while playing with his younger brother. Firemen and a doctor attempted resuscitation but the boy died. The body was recovered by Donald Miller and identified by the coroner as Robert Borger. The pond lies eight miles west of Franklin on the Border property. It is unclear how the boy entered the water. The incident occurred after school as the boys changed clothes to go to a baseball game.
