Rehabilitation Work Expands Prison Trade Training
Harrisburg May 4 Rehabilitation of prisoners in the department of welfare institutions has reached a point where about 60 percent of the inmate population receives occupational training. Since the start of the year 190 men and women have been returned to society after systematic trade training under the bureau of corrections. Trade training covers sewing printing metal trades and textile arts and currently about 1000 inmates partake across state shops. Pennsylvania’s prison labor and trade training system is regarded highly by penologists nationwide and foreign authorities often visit to learn how to establish similar programs.
