Three Hurt In Auto Crash At West Pleasant And First

Three persons sustained minor injuries in an early morning auto collision at the intersection of West Pleasant Street and First Avenue. Vehicles driven by Glen H. Bear Lake and Hasbrouck collided near Corry Water Office, causing damage to both cars and a mailbox. Sylvester Krupa and Jnk Campbell were not injured in a separate minor tangle at the same intersection.

Deny Victivgs Family To Adopt Stewardess

In Dravosburg Pennsylvania on May 4 the uncle and aunt of Nellie Granger denied a New York columnist claim that the heroic stewardess could be adopted by Mrs Meyer C Ellenstein wife of Newark mayor. Harry Baumgartner said they would not give Nellie up for the world and noted the columnist misread a remark by Mr Ellenstein praising Nellie for saving his wife’s fee as a serious adoption offer.

Methodist Church Merger Approved in Columbus Vote

In Columbus on May 4 the Methodist Episcopal Church voted by viva voce to unite with the Methodist Episcopal Church South and the Methodist Protestant Church. The tally was 470 to 83. The merged denomination would be named the Methodist Church with about 8,000,000 members worldwide.

Senate deadlock over new tax sources blocks $803 million bill

In Washington on May 4 mounting opposition to processing taxes and failure to reveal how to boost the $803 million tax bill’s yield hampered the Senate finance committee. Lawmakers voiced support for passing the corporate tax measure in broad form but remained puzzled over how to raise an additional $387 million. Chairman Pat Harrison warned revisions would come in executive sessions as he noted there is no plan yet to add to the total yield, prompting calls for a brainstorm or brain trust to devise a solution.

Fatal plane crash blamed on faulty valve in Altoona

In Altoona Pennsylvania on May 4 coroner C Rothrock tentatively linked the fatal plane crash to a faulty valve in the motor. The victim 25 year old student pilot George I Young was killed when the Altoona Airport company plane went down after taking a female passenger for a lift earlier Sunday.

Newsome Feed Plant Burns in Four Alarm Fire

A four alarm fire destroyed the Newsome Feed and Grain Company's South Side milling plant in Pittsburgh with an estimated loss of $100,000. Twelve fire companies fought the blaze after an explosion in the block long building near the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie railroad tracks, as equipment struggled to reach the site.

Columbus Man Paroled on Robbery Charge

Victor Hoban, 25, of Columbus, paroled for one year by Judge Miles B. Kitts in Erie county court after pleading guilty to breaking and entering and larceny. He stole 1110 dollars and 26 packs of cigarettes from the Park Lumbra restaurant on North Center Street early Thursday. Hoban, released under parole officer Harold Dundon, was arrested at his home following the break in and had claimed innocence until fingerprint proof was presented.

Final Plans for U B Church May Be Approved

Final approval of plans for the United Brethren church to be erected on North Center Street will be considered at a special session of the United Brethren Quarterly Conference. Rattlesnakes Used In Bride Murder Case

Los Angeles May 4. Robert James faces a first degree murder charge for killing his wife of three weeks by snake bites and drowning in a bathtub. District Attorney Baron Pitts plans death penalty pursuit. James and accomplice Charles Hope allegedly plotted the murder using rattlesnakes and spiders, with claims of drowning and body disposal at the La Crescent home.

Forman Slated for Assembly Speakership

Harrisburg May 4 Rep Roy Forman of Greene county is seen as likely to be elected speaker by the Democratic majority tonight in the state house. The selection, amid a caucus and talks by both parties, will occur as the assembly convenes in extraordinary session to replace the late Speaker Sarry. Caputo, current judiciary chairman, will temporarily preside and also seeks the speakership with Furman backed by State Chairman Lawrence. Caputo notes his bid and requests support from each member to continue as speaker until term end.

May 4 in Warsaw Twenty two Technical College students were hospitalized in serious condition after Nationalist students attacked Socialists mainly Jews. Fifty arrests were made and the college closed indefinitely.

Pair Escaped From Asylum Are Captured

Two men from Warren State Hospital described as dangerous were recaptured near Erie and Pittsburgh after escaping Thursday morning. Paul Casey of Erie was caught Saturday near Pioneers, and David Apgar of Pittsburgh was found on Route 6 near Youngsville. They will be confined in separate cells with precautions. Corry police had searched for them since the escape.
