Mrs. Hazel DeVore aged 42 of Meadville dies after a crash near her home on the Crawford County outskirts. Fractured jaw and injuries to others. several local residents witness the scene minutes after the collision. John Eckles and Fred Reyals escape with minor injuries. DeVore leaves four children and her husband Royal DeVore.
San Antonio May 4 Uncle Sam charging a poolkeeper and a Uruegial with conspiring to use malls for fraud. Thad Alor and Felix Garcia post bonds after their arrest last night. Postal authorities say they led to charges after finding nearly a thousand letters bearing the same pattern and addresses.
Pierre Etienne Flandin premier of France, key Europe war crisis figure, escaped death after an automobile crash in Auxerre. Doctors said he suffered a fractured left arm humorous. no other serious injuries were found. Flandin was driving when the accident occurred.
A severe evening thunderstorm caused a lightning strike at the Nelson Trisket farm near Newey's Corners. The bolt hit the bar nd houxe burning a water pump and disabling a telephone, but neither building caught fire. Earle grants William Deni a 33 day respite delaying execution to June 10 for further consideration by the partition board of the case. Deni alias Denni and Melyooul sentenced for murdering a Philadelphia patrolman.
DreamFades Bridgeport May 4 extortion case centers on a 22 year old high school graduate Peter Smindak who allegedly extorted over 1 million dollars from wealthy figures including Lawry Li Strauss Secre tary to Hoover Carl M Loeb and others in New York. Negotiations reportedly started at a Bridgeport hotel with demands ranging from seven thousand five hundred to twelve thousand dollars per victim. None paid.
Harrisburg May 4 Penn sylvania will gain 45 CCC camps through expansion of emergency conservation work under the new relief program. Secretary Bashore announced the extension will raise state camps to 140 and enrollment to 28 000 men. Nationally the program adds 4 2768 camps with an average cost of 25 000 000 and enrollment to 600 000 men. New state camps will be at Huntingdon Centre Snyder Belafora Clinton Cameron Clearfield Lycoming Potter Union Lackawanna Juniata Northumberland and Carbon counties, with three national camps in Warren county and others in nearby forests.
