Americans Allowed to Leave Today on Special Train

Four hundred Americans will depart Mexico City this evening on a special train bound for Puerto Mexico where they will board vessels prepared by Admiral Badger. The departure was arranged with the Brazilian embassy while American committees oversee travel details. Huerta’s health and resignation claims remain unconfirmed as mediation pressures grow. Barbosa and Cabanso rebels near Pueblo surrendered with about four hundred men to be folded into Huerta’s forces.

Ex Attorney General Gilbert Dies at 68

Lyman v Gilbert a longtime Dauphin County legal leader and former Pennsylvania attorney general died in Harrisburg this morning at age 68 after a brief illness. Gilbert once presided over the state bar association.

City Council Meets Tonight To Consider Bids And street Plans

Tonight the city commission holds a regular meeting to approve bills and discuss municipal improvements. A follow up session tomorrow will open bids for paving South Center Street between West Pleasant Street, with estimates ranging twelve to thirteen thousand dollars and strong contractor interest expected.

Freight Wreck Blocks Erie Line Trains For Hours

Last night a freight wreck damaged P and E train No 90 near Angdom station a few miles from Erie. The track was blocked for about three hours holding eastbound trains No 44 and 64 and westbound No 41 until around seven oclock. Also a militant suffragette damaged a portrait by Gar gent in the Royal Gallery and was later arrested.

Report from Vera Cruz says General Maas leads about five thousand Federals encamped near the city, threatening an attack while General Funston marshals seven thousand U S troops. Radio and telephone stations are being set up in strategic locations as the occupation continues.

Civic League elects all new officers at meeting

At the Civic League gathering in the Methodist Church parlors, Lena Mather was chosen president succeeding Mrs Spears. Ward presidents were named for four wards and K H Palmer was elected secretary treasurer. The group plans alley cleanup before a citywide event and will resume biweekly business meetings after spring.

New York Policeman Slain In Restaurant Ambush

A New York officer, Ashi Kaley, was killed by a gunman who had just robbed a street restaurant. The assailant, who gave the name Dunne, shot Kaley in the stomach as he attempted to identify the robber. Kaley died at the Jewish Hospital within an hour. Officer Youngs of the same precinct captured the attacker.

Odd Fellows Memorial Sermon Fills Church

Rey S J Macintyre delivered the Odd Fellows Memorial sermon for Jonathan lodge at United Drathren Church. More than a hundred Odd Fellows and many Rebekah joined the service on North Center street and attended in a body. The crowded edifice heard a three part sermon from Numbers 41 on Friendship Love and Truth with special music including a fine duet by Miss Macintyre.

Senate Debates Canal Bill Amid Tight Party Lines

Washington May - Senate opens debate on a measure to exempt American coastal shipping from canal tolls. The contest between Administration supporters and opponents is sharp with many senators from both parties signaling lengthy discussion.
