Harrisburg AP Lt Gov Ernest Kline holds the line on Mazzei ouster amid a disputed ruling and looming appeal. Mazzei, a Pittsburgh Democrat, faces five years in prison and a $20 000 fine for taking a $20 000 political contribution to influence state contracts. The case tests Kline's constitutional stance and future ambitions toward the U S Senate or governor's office. The Mazzei appeal could drag on months, timing that complicates Kline's political balance as the Senate recess continues to block further votes until after the primary.
