meters look like good deal for new parking system

The city plans a pay as you go meter system with Koontz Equipment Co of Pittsburgh covering the difference between last year’s take and this year’s, using an average not to exceed two dollars per meter. Koontz offers two breaks, deferring payments until meter maid enforcement proves effective and contributing only an average amount. Currently only the meter maid salary and patrol vehicle costs are paid from collections, with violation income kept separate. Officials expect a full year of operation before solid figures emerge, while initial data suggest success. A break in at Anthony DeCarbo’s box led to $70 missing and a trap door left open.

Picket Ban Ignored By Jamestown Plant Dispute

Jamestown plant dispute continues as NLRA upholds a picketing ban but union spokesmen say they will act after receiving the decision. Howard Freudman of the United Furniture Workers says picketing will continue and any further action depends on the official copy. The NLRB ruling, tied to a December decision, notes UPW lost an election and thus was no longer the bargaining agent, with orders to halt picketing for 12 months and to display the notice in offices and at the plant.
