Army mail flier dies in Iowa crash near Dewitt
A heavy rainstorm contributed to the death of 1st Lt Thurman A. Wade, an army air mail pilot, when his aircraft crashed four miles northeast of Dewitt, Iowa. Coroner Riggert said Wade had tried to divert eastward for an emergency landing after taking off from Chicago. The 600 pound cargo scattered as the nose of the craft struck the ground. no fire occurred. Wade’s body was sent to Clinton for burial.
