Question Bill For Jail Guards Contested By County Board
The county prison board debated discharging three guards linked to the death watch for Willim McCausland, noting no official hiring records or fixed salaries. The board learned about $3,280 paid in salaries and possible warden actions without board approval. District Attorney Laub called death watch guards customary, not mandatory, due to suicide risk. The board asked Laub to draft an opinion on their rights and postponed a decision after McCausland’s sentence was commuted.
