Columbus Farm Home Fire Claims Life Of George Christensen
A Columbus farmer, George Christensen 67, died when a fire gutted the kitchen of his rural home two miles near Columbus at 8 15 this morning. His wife, son and daughter in law, and four grandchildren escaped via a nearby bullethut, ladder and tree as firefighters battled the blaze. Christensen’s son George Jr 24 raised the alarm in Columbus after awakening to screams, then returned to sound the first alarm while his mother 60 scrambled down a tree. Firefighters found Christensen’s body at the kitchen table after flames concentrated there. The fire started in the wood burning stove area and collapsed a portion of the kitchen roof. Officers and investigators from Warren and Columbus were on scene, with the investigation continuing on pane five.
