Test Gear To Find Trapped Miners In Buckeye Shaft

Experimental rescue equipment was deployed to locate two miners trapped deep in the Nemacolin Shaft at Buckeye Coal Co in Greene County near the West Virginia line. Specialists from Westinghouse and teams from Midland Texas and Boulder Colorado assisted with drilling, seismic sensors, and oxygen supplies as crews attempt to determine if the men are alive. The trapped miners Richard Randolph 63 and Charles Gibson 61 from Nemacolin were among 20 workers when the shaft fire started Friday afternoon.

Three Car Crash Damages $2300 at Dairy Queen Site

A three car crash at the Dairy Queen on East Columbus Avenue caused total damage of 2300 dollars with no injuries. Mrs. Harold Hosier 34 of Bear Lake was eastbound and turned into the Dairy Queen lot, colliding with Paul Covey 46 of Corry who tried to stop. A third car driven by Mrs. Rex Kenniston 48 of Corry rammed the second car after the initial impact. Charges are pending.

Busti Deaths Under Investigation After Murder Suicide

MAYVILLE The Chautauqua County Sheriff probes a death by own action in Busti. Janice Mordino 32 and husband Jose 48 found dead at Hunt Rd. The .22 rifle is suspected as Mordino shot his wife in the chest and killed himself. Neighbor alerted police after no one answered the door. The couple’s children were at school.

Newly Formed Union Calls First Strike in Greensburg

About 40 recently unionized workers at Esco Co in Greensburg walked out Thursday night after talks broke down to press for their first contract. Local 28 of the International Union of Operating Engineers said the nondestructive testing and metal fabrication firm employs around 80 people.
