Youngsville Boards Own Water System Amid Utility Tax Fears

Youngsville borough faces tax uncertainty as a new 5 percent utilities tax law may retroactively affect municipal water and sewage assets. The borough owns a $385,000 sewage plant operating since January and a water system valued around $100,000 with wells and tanks. The sewage plant remains under Municipal Authority control until final release of the contractor. Local officials warn the ambiguities could impact rates and whether municipalities can pass costs to consumers.
