No Planes for Israel Yet U.S. keeps options open
Secretary Rogers announced the administration will not grant Israel’s request for over 100 new warplanes for now, while hinting at possible economic assistance. Nixon said the decision is interim, tied to the military balance in the Middle East, with Soviet shipments and future French jets watched closely. Abba Eban in Jerusalem criticized the shift, while Vietnamization and Laos complicate future withdrawals.

Local postal workers show little eagerness to strike and operate hour by hour awaiting federal action. If no action within five days national strike threatens local carriers, with some easing reported in Pittsburgh where embargoes were lifted on certain mail.
