A missing Conneaut boy Vincent Gurto 5 is believed drowned in Lake Erie after wandering from a babysitter's home. Police and divers roped through the ice facing dense fog and near 700 feet out, with footprints spotted and the dog returning home. A Coast Guard helicopter was to arrive from Detroit as daylight resumes the search.
A likely wild black panther was sighted last night near the I 90 and Route 19 intersection. An unidentified area woman saw the animal about 6 PM and watched it for roughly 20 minutes as it moved slowly through a field. her husband and son confirmed the sighting before the animal was last seen heading away.

Warren residents won a design change for the Starbrick divided highway. State Highways Secretary Rob Bartlett announced a 16 foot median, replacing the four foot plan, to allow safer recovery areas and accommodate jughandle turnoffs. The redesign preserves a median barrier and adds 16 foot standby lanes to aid local traffic maneuvers across the four lanes.
