Push Charges Against Miners in Court Fight
The government appeals a Keech ruling that cleared United Mine Workers leader John L. Lewis and the union of contempt of court charges tied to the miners defying a back to work order amid negotiations. Assistant Attorney General H. Gisham Mar yon accuses Lewis of a studied display while urging men to return to work. The appeal argues officers should have made membership obey the injunction. A formal hearing is set for April 26.
