Charleston West Virginia AP report says Arlen Payne, a 28 year old man, kidnapped a mother and her three children from South Charleston, fired twice at a police car, then surrendered at a Kanawha County jail. Garland Sparta Man Hurt At Hierwin Mig Company
Sparta man Roy Brown 30 was injured when his left foot was crushed by a pulley while operating a wool “match eye machine” at Hierwin Mig Company in Garland. He dropped wood, stooped, and his pant leg drew into the pulley, causing a compound fracture and severe ankle laceration. The fire department sent an ambulance to Corry Memorial Hospital with police escort. Brown had worked at the Garland firm three years and was accustomed to his machine.

Four Killed As Bus Hits Car Near Augustine
A Greyhound bus northbound in heavy rain struck a car near Saint Augustine Florida. Four occupants of the car were killed and eight bus passengers were hospitalized though none were seriously hurt.
