Detroit based report states a general strike against automakers with the AFL calling for action starting 9 a m at Hudson plant Detroit 14 000 workers. The move aims to spread to Flint Lansing and Pontiac with 9 000 Hudson workers backing officials.
City Council awarded Cory Bridge & Supply Company the reinforced steel contract for extending the sewer intake to Fourth Ward from Myrtle to Seneca Streets under the CWA program. Bids from Cory Bridge, Franklin Steel Works, Erie Concrete Steel, Rogers Structural Steel total $673.80 and $695 respectively. City officials anticipate possible work start soon pending Erie approval and funding for all CWA projects.
Paris police said two young Americans Robert and Marjorie Switz confessed details of a vast espionage ring alleged to operate for Germany and Soviet Russia. The couple, held in prison, were questioned nine hours without food and provided names of new suspects as authorities expanded the investigation across Europe and toward the United States. The French secret service, with American and British cooperation, charged the ring acted against France Great Britain and the United States.
