Pilot Who Bombed Palace Gets Away
The Cambodian Air Force 728 fighter used by Capt. So Petra in the assassination attempt Saturday was last seen over Kompong Cham province near Phnom Penh. He reportedly landed in the two thirds of Cambodia controlled by the Khmer Rouge and North Vietnamese allies. Petra was said to be the lover of Princess Norodom Botum Bopha, daughter of deposed ruler Norodom Sihanouk. Some American sources allege he acted in anger after Lon Nol broadcast claims that the attack was a Communist plot to topple the government.
