Salamanca Fire Fatal To 4 Children

Four children died when a rural Salamanca home burned down Tuesday night while they slept. Their mother, badly burned on hands and face, saved three other children and drove them in a pickup to a neighbor for aid. Survivors were rushed to a hospital in nearby Olean.

IMF Funds To Wreck Ike Budget Hopes

Washington AP report says the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved a $1.375 billion increase in the U.S. subscription to the International Monetary Fund to come from next year’s budget, undermining President Eisenhower’s balanced budget aim. The panel also backed a $4.175 billion World Bank capital stock rise that would not shift immediate budget costs, prompting Republican Leader Everett Dirksen to warn the move may leave the federal budget unbalanced.

City Motorists Unhurt In Route 89 Crash Near Corry

Corry Stater reports that two city motorists escaped injury when their cars collided about 1 o'clock last evening six miles west of Corry on Route 69. John P. Baroth of Liberty Street stopped after hearing a thump. Howard McMullin of West Frederick Street, driving south, skid on ice and struck Baroth’s car. Total loss estimated at about 100 dollars.

Two-Car Collision Causes $1,600 Damage on North Center

Police reported a two car collision on North Center street at 7:15 last evening causing $1,600 in damage. Charles Hiles of Snyder Circle and Joseph Svetz, 19, of R. D. 4. Corry were the drivers. Svetz’s car slid out of control in the 1000 block and struck Hiles’ vehicle as the street was icy. No injuries were reported. The other item notes U.S. Steel Corp says corporate profits are down sharply versus wages since World War II.

TV Sets Taken In Columbus Area Break-in

Corry State Police investigate a break-in at Gilson's Builders Supply west of Columbus on Route 6. Executive Wife Stabbed To Death at Home

Verna Bagran about 55 wife of a clothing firm president was found stabbed to death in her Squir rel Hill home. A paring knife protruded from her throat and she lay at the foot of basement steps near the family passage. Bagran was reported in New York on a business trip.

Park Rides Approve 59 Expenditures for Recreation Spot

Mead earl Association members last night approved a operating budget for the coming year to run the Wenle recreation site. Norman Edinger chaired the grounds committee and presented the plan, which funds a new bridge over the dam a motorized snow sweeper a new duck house pond stocking with fish for Decoration Day opening and partial restroom completion. Pennsylvania House considers bingo legalization bill

Harrisburg AP reports that a bill would legalize bingo on a focal option basis in Pennsylvania. The measure, sponsored by Rep. John J. Murray and Rep. George E.
