House Moves To Speed Roosevelt Tax Proposals
Washington March 14 The House tax sub committee began consideration of the second phase of its budget a balancing tax problem to raise 417 million dollars to compensate the treasury for losses when the Supreme Court validated the AAA. House leaders urged speed to end Republican opposition and hoped to save Roosevelt's 72 million dollar tax proposal before the Ways and Means Committee rule this week for public hearings. The sub committee tentatively disclosed the president's 620 million dollar surplus corporate tax proposal to name the Congress farm relief with an agreement for revision to provide cushion allowances through which business might build reserves and potential future depressions. Congressmen of both parties indicate reluctance to impose new taxes in an election year but leaders are confident of passage in substantially the form recommended by Mr. Roosevelt with adjournment of Congress early in May.
