Harrisburg, March 14. The administration prepares 13 bills totaling 42 077 764.56 to fund state functions for the current biennium. A deficiency item of 5 821.75 goes to executive adjutant departments, with 12 more measures totaling 80 356.0 to cover operating costs through May 31 and the biennium. Also proposed is a lapse provision to transfer unspent general fund appropriations from 1927 or earlier and 1929 to 1931 from the legislature’s actions into the general fund. United Press reports in Harrisburg that a legislative resolution demanding a probe into alleged anti liberal attitude at University of Pittsburgh passed the House but a motion to table failed 92 to 0. United Press reports the administration aims to end the dual system of state and federal charters by bringing all banks into a federal charter. The initial step favors joining the Federal Reserve System. only 6487 of about 15,400 banks are members now. The plan could take a decade or more, seeking one class of American banks.
In a blinding snowstorm at Caradoc Ontario a Canadian Pacific passenger train bound for Toronto to Detroit collided head on with a landing freight train. Eleven people were injured though no cars overturned, and several were derailed. The eastbound freight train had been entering a siding when the passenger train struck.
Harrisburg March 14 The personal property tax bill, a $203,000,000 revenue measure in Governor Earle’s program, was approved on second reading without debate. It would raise about $49,800,000 biennially, raise the levy from 4 to 6 mills, shift collection to the state revenue department, and affect savings bank deposits mortgages and other investments. Final passage and Senate action were set for Monday night and Tuesday respectively along with four other administration tax bills. Governor Earle expects these measures to yield about $7,000,000 biennially.
Corty Kiwanis Club in Loclay discussed creating a history of Northwestern Pennsylvania. Attorney W L Peake was named chairman of a committee to lead the project in Corry. Erie attorney J H Read urged the effort, noting easy access to local incidents and the region’s strong historical background. Guests D MacKenzie W H Marsh Corry and Lloyd Andrus Carl Morrison Brie attended.
A school bus overturned on a 20 foot embankment nine miles south of Jackson Tennessee injuring twenty seven children, some seriously, as reported from Jackson on March 14.

In Pittsburgh on March 14 Paul Harper waited in hospital corridors as his wife, just after giving birth to their son three months earlier, weakened and died. When the nurse warned of her death he returned to her room, then, with no sign of recovery, he shot himself in the chest. He died instantly as nurse Margaret Kacur reached him.
Washington March 14 United Press Secretary Morgenthau announced the redemption of nearly 2 billion dollars in First Liberty Loan bonds. The issue, outstanding 1.83 billion, will be refinanced after June 15 to save about 14 million annually in interest and move much of the debt from short to longer terms.
The charred hulk of the Morro Castle, the luxury liner blamed for 124 deaths when it burned off the New Jersey coast on September 8, was floated today near Asbury Park New Jersey. The vessel had been a wreck since the disaster.
Oakland Calif March 14 At midnight tonight a mystery airplane guided by a tibot pilot and a new directions compass will leave Oakland airport for Honolulu with US Army personnel as passengers the United Press learned. The 2400 mile over water trip from the mainland to the Hawaiian Isles will be the supreme test of new flying equipment which may revolutionize long distance flight and make commercial air routes over large bodies of water more practicable. For three days representatives of the US Army Air Corps and the Federal Department of Commerce have been testing the special equipment in atall.

The panel would include three senators and three representatives with $2000 for expenses and would determine highway types, state system inclusion, bridge and grade crossing responsibility, local funding participation, and cost burdens between motorists and government. The committee would work with state highway engineers and the federal Bureau of Roads.
Pittsburgh reports show the three rivers easing from prior flood fears as cold weather lowers levels. Gov ernment engineers and National Guardsmen remain on alert along the Mississippi tributaries in Missouri and Arkansas, assisting refugees and repairing levees amid rising flood waters.
Fire Chief J E Joyce of Sharpsville succeeded Fire Chief Anileow Paulson of this city as president of the Northern Pennsylvania Firemen's Association at an annual meeting in Greenville last evening. Assistant Chief Fred Carman of Meadville was elected first vice president, L L Leberman of Meadville was reelected secretary, and G W Gackenbash of Greenville is treasurer. The association covers several counties in the region including Erie Crawford Lawrence Warren Venango Morer and Forest.
