Wholesale Price Jump Highest In 16 Months

Wholesale prices rose nine tenths of a percent in February led by coffee, poultry, fruits and vegetables with the largest jump in 18 months. Analysts attribute part to severe winter and drought effects while noting fuel costs surged and prior refunds on natural gas dampened perceived underlying inflation. The index stood at 190, up 6 percent from a year earlier, signaling ongoing inflation pressures as farm product prices, including raw cotton and eggs, surged while cattle and oil seeds fell.

$13,000 Funding For Offenders Interview Set Not Authorized

Erie County auditors examine a $13,000 ex-offender training project funded via Project CARE that commissioners opposed. A contract with Eastern Laboratories and Data Processing, Inc. allegedly moved funds without full board knowledge. Six ex-offenders were to be trained and hired, but the firm later went out of business and many participants remain unemployed. Two audits are underway to determine receipts and potential overcharges. Pennsylvania’s population estimate is also noted.

Jamestown teacher tests food stamps after $8 loss turns to $198

Jamestown High School history teacher Richard A. Kimball Jr used a lost $8 part time job due to gas curtailment to test the food stamp program. He received a $198 grocery voucher though he argued the system overcompensated and requested it be voided. The episode highlights concerns over policy as a late replayed game restored his $8 earnings and no repayment of the $198 occurred. The FDA also announced a suspension of approvals for plastic bottles made with acrylonitrile due to transfer concerns.
