Statistician WW J Lauek says ten western railroads paid 11 276 495 dollars in dividends on watered stock in 1912 and notes it exceeds by about two million dollars the amount needed to raise engineers and firemen wages. He cites 86 percent purity to total 173 109 790 dollars and 6 0 120 124 dollars in underwriting commissions, arguing capitalization inflates value through stock dividends and below market stock sales.
